Exploring Myths and Legends at Grovely Woods

Updated: Oct 24

On Monday, Eden class embarked on an exciting adventure to Grovely Woods in Wilton. This trip launched our brand-new topic: Myths, Legends and Folklore.

A Journey Through the Woods

Armed with curiosity and good walking shoes, we completed a 7km trek through the woods. Our mission was to track down three legendary sites steeped in mystery.

First, we paused at the Roman Road. This road is famous for its strange phenomenon. Some say you can still hear the footsteps of Roman soldiers or even World War II troops marching through. The echoes of history linger in the air, captivating our imaginations.

Next, we reached the towering beech tree. This tree is rumoured to be the burial place of a witch. The stories surrounding this tree added an eerie atmosphere to our adventure.

Finally, we learned about the mysterious Burcombe Woodsman. This figure is said to appear as a shadowy silhouette among the trees. The tales of the woodsman sparked our curiosity and made us wonder about the legends that have been passed down through generations.

A Day of Learning and Adventure

Throughout the day, our pupils were fantastic. They displayed brilliant behaviour, enthusiasm, and a real thirst for learning while out in the wild. The experience was not just about exploring nature; it was about connecting with stories that have shaped our culture.

What an inspiring way to kick off our new topic! The adventure at Grovely Woods will surely be a memorable part of our learning journey.

St Edward’s Sports Day – A Celebration of Energy and Team Spirit

Our annual Sports Day, which took place at the end of last term, was a wonderful success. The day was filled with sunshine, cheers, and plenty of friendly competition. Pupils gave their all across a range of events. They showed determination, teamwork, and great sportsmanship.

It was fantastic to see our whole school community come together. We celebrated effort, achievement, and fun. Well done to everyone who took part; you made it a day to remember!
