“The St Edward’s job advert really caught my eye. I was first attracted to apply  as I was intrigued by the unique setting which was a stark contrast to the large inner city state junior and tiny semi-rural primary school that I had taught in for my entire career. I found the possibility of moving from mainstream primary education into a secondary school specialising in an area of SEND, which really interested me, very appealing indeed.

I took a risk when I joined St Edward’s and stepped completely out of my comfort zone of mainstream primary education.  However, I was excited at the chance to work exclusively with SEND students whose education to date was not as successful as it could have been.  I wanted to help make a difference and every day I believe that I do.  Therefore my motivation levels are high, which is important in any job.

I have had the chance to complete a lot of CPD since joining St Edward’s as it is very high on the school’s agenda.  I have also had the fantastic opportunity to take on extra responsibilities alongside my main role; this would not have been possible in my previous roles.  Another fantastic opportunity that I have had is to work mainly in one subject area that is a personal strength and a passion – Maths!

Every day I feel very lucky to work as part of such a supportive team and make a difference to the lives and education of our students and achieve the best possible outcomes for them.”

I have worked at St Edward’s for 15 years, and I still love coming in every single day. St Edward’s isn’t just a school, it is a community and the entire ethos of that community is around patience, understanding, time and care.

Every day at St Edward’s is different and presents new challenges, but every day is so rewarding. You know you are helping the boys in our care to overcome their own challenges, difficulties and frustrations. Helping them to believe in themselves and to have the confidence to realise their potential and self-worth, to achieve the best possible outcomes now and in the future.

St Edward’s is of course a school, but it is not all about academics, we are so much more than that.  It is the nurture and care we provide to our pupils, we recognise that every pupil in our school is an individual, and we pride ourselves on the relationships we build with them, which fundamentally is the basis for everything we do here.

Professionally, you are able to develop your own CPD with relevant training provided, as well as there being opportunities to take on extra roles and responsibilities within the school. It is often said by colleagues, pupils and parents that St Edward’s is like a big extended family, and that is honestly how it feels. St Edward’s is a fantastic place to work, it is actually a vocation, and I can’t imagine being anywhere else.
