St Edward’s School officially opened the St Joseph’s Practical Skills Building, marking a significant expansion of its vocational and technical education provision.
Guests, including Governors, parents, project partners and students, gathered in the historic Old House before student councillors formally welcomed attendees and introduced the long-anticipated facility.
The centre, named after St Joseph, patron saint of workers, has been developed in partnership with OC Projects and Studio 4, whose work was acknowledged by the Headmaster and Chair of Governors during the opening ceremony. The building was then blessed by Fr. Joseph Meigh, after which guests toured the new spaces.
Inside, visitors viewed state-of-the-art workshops designed to deliver accredited training in automotive engineering, supported by specialist staff including lead teacher Mr Shaun Nicholson and newly appointed technician Mr Allen. The second floor features custom-built plumbing bays that will be used in collaboration with IHeat through the Wider Horizons programme.
Led by Mrs Sally Webb, Director of Development, the project represents 18 months of planning and will provide students with enhanced pathways into apprenticeships, further study and industry employment.
The St Joseph’s Practical Skills Centre positions St Edward’s as a leader in practical and vocational learning, ensuring students gain the skills, confidence and opportunities needed to thrive in an ever-evolving technical landscape.
