'MAKE YOURSELF NECESSARY'

DEDICATED
LEARNERS

St Edward’s SEMH Catholic school is proud to be celebrating the outstanding achievements of its students again this summer. Our students have recorded truly excellent outcomes, with 100% of students passing their GCSEs for the second successive year.

The headline figures below are testament to the commitment and hard work of the students and their staff.

The pass rate at GCSE grade 4 equivalent for English and Maths was 73% and 54% respectively, with 91% of students achieving an English, Maths and Science qualification – no mean feat for a specialist provision. One student achieved 90% of the total marks available in his Maths GCSE, securing a strong pass at Grade 5! All the students are now well-placed to take their next steps with the literacy and numeracy basics secured.

This year’s cohort, like many of their predecessors, followed a range of academic and vocational courses, tailored to their interests and needs. All students who followed BTEC courses secured fantastic results in Land Management, Creative Media, Sport, and Hospitality and Tourism, with 100% of all grades awarded Merits, and 25% awarded Distinctions.

Of note, 100% of students following GCSE courses in both Art and Design Technology passed, with 33% securing strong passes at grade 5 in Design Technology amongst the standout performances.

The school remains ambitious and forward-thinking in its curriculum design, and in the new year, it is looking forward to opening a practical skills centre that will offer a range of courses, including Motor Vehicle Maintenance, plumbing, carpentry and electrical engineering, the latter being delivered in partnership with iHeat. This expansion signals the school’s belief that no one curriculum pathway can cater for the neurodiversity of its students, and, as such, it is always looking to develop partnerships and provide learning opportunities to enrich the students’ academic, social, and emotional skills, as well as expanding their horizons through its cultural capital and extra-curricular offer.

It takes a community to raise a child, and this is especially true of St Edward’s. The dedication and relentless pursuit of success for our students has been rewarded. The school’s leadership team wish to thank the students for their

hardwork - we are immensely proud of you all; it has been our privilege to be part of your learning journey, and to help you shape your lives and build hope for the future.

Special thanks are due in no less measure to the teachers, teaching assistants, pastoral care, and support staff, all of whom make significant contributions to providing an environment where students can feel safe and ready to learn. For neurodivergent students, the routines, people, and physical environment are significant factors in enabling them to feel confident to do things they did not think they could do.

Our pastoral and academic curriculum, coupled with the personal approach to learning support, has enabled the students to follow their dreams, and we wish them every success as they move on to post-16 courses, training, or employment.
