St Edward’s School Celebrates the Oscar Romero

Updated: Jul 10

This week, St Edward’s School proudly celebrates achieving the Innovator Level of the Oscar Romero Award, the highest recognition for embedding Catholic Social Teaching (CST) principles into school life. This award marks a significant milestone in the school’s mission to be a beacon of justice, dignity, and compassion.

At this level, St Edward’s has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to transforming its culture. Every member of the school community is encouraged and empowered to actively challenge inequality and injustice, both within the school and far beyond its gates. The values of CST are visible and lived daily. They are woven into the curriculum, leadership, community outreach, and pupil voice.

The school’s work is not just inspiring, but measurable and sustainable. It sets an example for others to follow. St Edward’s is now a ‘missionary centre’ for spreading these core values to other schools. This helps shape a more just and caring society.

This award is a testament to the unwavering dedication of pupils, staff, and the broader community in building a world that reflects Gospel values in action.

The Impact of the Award

The Oscar Romero Award is essential for promoting social justice and moral values in education. It instills a sense of responsibility and compassion in students. The award not only recognizes achievements but also encourages ongoing commitment to these vital principles.

For St Edward’s, the recognition is about more than awards. It represents a collective effort towards tangible change. The school fosters a culture where every individual feels empowered to make a difference. This engagement is crucial for nurturing socially conscious future leaders.

What's Happening in Lower School

Lower School Pupils Step Back in Time as Vikings!

This week, the Lower School pupils took a step back in time to experience life as Vikings! As part of their history topic, pupils dressed in Viking costumes. They brought shields, helmets, and even a few fearsome axes!

The Lower School explored what it meant to live like a Viking. It was a highlight to see the enthusiasm on everyone's face. The event allowed students to fully embrace their Viking adventure. It was a brilliant way to bring history to life!

Roman Bath Visit

As part of our History topic on the Romans, Class 9C had the exciting opportunity to visit the Roman Baths in Bath. Although the site was extremely busy and overcrowded, our pupils coped brilliantly throughout the day. They showed resilience and great behavior in a bustling environment.

They enjoyed exploring the ancient site. The stunning Roman architecture captivated them, deepening their understanding of both Roman and Greek history. While the smell of the natural spring water wasn’t well received, the historical significance certainly was! Many even braved a taste of the spring water, though the reviews were… mixed, to say the least!

After the educational part of the day, we enjoyed a relaxing picnic and visited the beautiful Pulteney Bridge.

Once again, our pupils were fantastic ambassadors for the school! Their dedication made the trip a success.
