Animal Husbandry - Meet our Animals
At St Edward’s, we believe that hands-on experiences can be powerful in helping our pupils grow, learn, and feel supported. One of the highlights of our animal husbandry programme is the opportunity for students to meet and care for the animals that live on our school site. These sessions are not just about learning practical skills, they are moments of connection, responsibility, and confidence-building.

Pupils spend time feeding, grooming, and handling the animals, including walking our friendly cocker spaniels. These activities are especially valuable for students who experience anxieties or find it challenging to engage in a busy school environment. Spending time with animals provides a calming, supportive atmosphere where pupils can develop trust, patience, and a sense of achievement.
St Edward’s Student Life - Our students genuinely enjoy caring for the animals, and the experience teaches them about empathy, respect, and the importance of routine and responsibility. Beyond the practical skills, these sessions offer a sense of belonging and emotional support, helping pupils to flourish both socially and academically.
The animal husbandry programme is just one example of how St Edward’s provides unique opportunities that nurture personal growth, resilience, and wellbeing. Through these experiences, our pupils gain not only knowledge but also confidence, a sense of purpose, and the joy that comes from caring for living creatures
Story Telling -St Edward’s Student Life
This week, Eden were visited by Mike O'Leary, a local storyteller. We spent the afternoon in the woods listening to Mike tell different folklore stories and local legends through song, poems, rhymes and music. This was part of our topic where we have been learning how stories have been passed down over time through different mediums.
All pupils had a wonderful time, and we can't wait to ask him back!

Swimming Gala
This week, St Edward’s held its annual Swimming Gala, bringing pupils together to compete across a range of events. Races included freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and relays, with pupils from all year groups taking part.
The event provided an opportunity for students to demonstrate their swimming skills and teamwork in a supportive environment. The gala ran smoothly thanks to the efforts of staff, organisers and pupil helpers.
Congratulations go to all participants for their commitment and effort, and to winning the relay race beating the staff team, a huge congratulation for their success.

Tudor House
On Thursday, Lower School visited the Tudor House and Gardens in Southampton. We enjoyed a guided tour and got to take part in a range of activities including looking at different Tudor artefacts and sources. All pupils engaged and made it a great morning out!

Historic Dockyard
As part of our Humanities topic on The British Empire and World Trade/Slavery, 9C visited the Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth. Although the slavery exhibition was no longer on display, pupils demonstrated fantastic curiosity and critical thinking by identifying their own clues that linked Britain to the history of slavery. They spotted details in paintings, discovered connections in battles between the French and British Empires in Africa, and even walked across a floor made from the wooden planks of ships that had once transported enslaved African people.
It was a brilliant trip that not only deepened pupils’ understanding of this important topic, but also set the stage for the exciting visits we have planned in the future. Most importantly, our pupils were excellent ambassadors for the school throughout the day!
