Children's Mental Health Week
We have marked Children’s Mental Health Week in school through a range of thoughtful and engaging activities. The week kicked off with The Assistant Head of Wellbeing delivering Thought for the Day in collaboration with the Student Council, discussing the power of the five ways to wellbeing; Connect, Keep Learning, Be Active, Notice, Give and how they support our mental health.
Pupils took part in creative activities such as designing and building their own “happy, safe place,” helping them to reflect on where and how they feel secure and calm. They also expressed their thoughts and feelings through descriptive writing and acrostic poems, using language as a tool to share emotions and experiences.
Throughout the week, we have reinforced the importance of talking about feelings and reaching out for support. We have encouraged pupils to understand that seeking help is a sign of strength and that support is always available not just during Children’s Mental Health Week, but at any time throughout the year. Our aim is to continue fostering an open, supportive environment where every child feels heard, valued, and safe.
World Book Day 2026
At St Edward's, World Book Day was celebrated as a whole school community, with pupils and staff coming together to mark the occasion. Throughout the day, activities were centred around encouraging a love of reading and helping pupils discover stories and authors they might not otherwise have come across.
Ambulance Experience
Pupils from Eden, Lower School and Middle School hubs had a memorable visit from the ambulance service recently, gaining a fascinating insight into what a career in emergency healthcare looks like day to day. Our pupils had the chance to explore the ambulance and handle real equipment used by paramedics, learning about the roles and responsibilities involved in responding to emergencies. It was a genuinely eye-opening experience that gave pupils plenty to think about when considering future careers.
Eden Survival Skills Day
As part of their topic on Exploration, pupils in Eden took part in a full day of hands-on survival skills, working in small groups to tackle a range of practical challenges.
Over the course of the day, they learned how to safely start a fire, filter water using natural materials, and construct a weatherproof den using resources around them. The day also included an introduction to basic first aid, with pupils exploring how to respond to injuries that might occur if someone became lost in the wild.
All pupils threw themselves into the activities with real enthusiasm and took on each challenge with impressive determination, though it's fair to say that the den-building results were somewhat mixed, with not every structure passing the waterproofing test!
Longdown Activity Farm
Our pupils had an amazing learning experience during our visit to Longdown Activity Farm as part of our Humanities work on Fairtrade and imported products, as well as our ASDAN Handling Money module.
Everyone enjoyed:
Feeding and caring for the animals: a hands-on opportunity to explore where our food comes from.
Visiting the farm shop: choosing and buying products gave us a brilliant real-life link to money skills and ethical purchasing.
Discussing Fairtrade and ethical buying: pupils reflected on how buying choices can support farmers locally and internationally.
Enjoying the playground and go‑karts, because learning is even better with some fun in the sunshine!
It was a day full of practical learning, teamwork, and new experiences.
