Weekly News Wrap-up

Bournemouth Airport Trip

Class 9C had an exciting opportunity to visit the local airport for a school trip, which gave us a glimpse into the world of aviation. The day began with a guided tour through the terminal, where students learned about airport operations, including security procedures, check-in systems and the behind-the-scenes logistics that keep flights on schedule. Pupils were given tickets, and they had to find their flight number and gate, but unfortunately, we couldn’t board then. They also had the chance to meet airline staff, special care assistants, check-in assistants, the Ground Operations Manager and the Customer Office Manager, who shared their experiences and answered questions about their careers in aviation and the skills needed for these job roles. Our pupils were inspired by their stories, with some expressing newfound interest in pursuing careers in the field, like Callum, who showed an interest in becoming cabin crew. The trip’s highlights were the exceptional hospitality of the manager, who offered the pupils a hot chocolate and ourselves a coffee at the airport’s cafe, and our view of a plane taking off. Overall, the trip was educational and inspiring, providing a unique look at how airports function and the teamwork required to keep passengers and cargo moving smoothly. It was a day filled with learning, excitement and curiosity about the world of flight.

Rockbourne Roman Villa

This week, we saw a cross-curricular trip out to Rockbourne Roman Villa. We had a fantastic experience with a resident archaeologist, John, showing us around the old villa, explaining the skills and history around the incredible mosaics, an insight into Roman Britain and how the Romans lived and worked the land around them.

Alongside this, the lower school pupils were taught basic photography skills and took their 1st steps into how to use our DSLR cameras. Pupils also had an opportunity to design and create their mosaics as part of the art module they have been working on previously with Fran. To see the original preserved mosaics from hundreds of years ago inspire the boys to ask questions and explore the Roman art form was a joy to share.

Fran, Jen, and Theresa were delighted with how the pupils took to the trip, and it was a great experience overall. It was especially great to see John dress up in full Roman armour!

Artists of the Week

After studying cubism, Carter drew inspiration from Picasso and an apple to create his own interpretation. He then enhanced his personal response by digitally editing it and expanding on his original idea.

This week, Marley has been exploring cubist shapes. Drawing inspiration from Georges Braque and Sonic, he produced a personal response. Well done, Marley.

Year 11 - BTEC Hospitality & Tourism

For their BTEC Hospitality and Tourism course, our Year 11 pupils have been studying and exploring local attractions. Following weeks of research on the offerings of various attractions, it was finally time to begin visiting selected locations. This week, they went to Stonehenge. They had a great time and hopefully gained insights from the trip to support their progress and advancement towards their qualifications.
